  • Mourning

I went and saw United 93 this evening at the new Rave. Thanks to Paul GreengrASS‘s overuse of substituting motion blur for dramatic effect, the rank-amateur use of handheld/stedicams and the inability to correctly edit, the movie did not hit an emotional cord with me. In fact, most of the duration of the film, I was thinking about what production must have been like. While that is normal for me, I found it odd that both thinking of production and the viewing of this film would both be so dry, especially since I was very apprehensive about watching the movie to begin with. I didn’t like United 93 nearly as much as I did Flight 93. Flight 93 was so intense that I almost vomited despite the overacting on the part of the family members on the ground. What I did like about United 93 was getting to be inside the flight control rooms. We’ll see what Oliver Stone will deliver, but just from the plot description, I’m willing to bet that World Trade Center will be sappy and infuriating. It’s not right create historical fiction based on 9/11. Let us remember, grieve, and defeat the enemy.

Kudos to Eric who has provided me with three of the four scores I listed that I wanted from Amazon.com. I’ve fallen in love with the Requiem for a Dream score. Also, I’m really liking the last six tracks off of the Kong score. Especially using the last two tracks to create a mood in me gearing up for the script that Reggie and I are working on. I just hope that I can show the anguish, pain and suffering that connects us as human beings. He’s dragging his ass getting me the material I need so that work can commence, but this too shall pass.

Because of Kong I’m starting to take interest in the Empire State Building as an American accomplishment. This, combined with the films about 9/11 got me to thinking of the most beloved American icon, namely, the Twin Towers. I mourn their/our loss.

Freedom Tower sickens me. We should just rebuild the original towers, perhaps re-engineering materials, construction, etc. to withstand plane attacks, if so possible.

It’s getting worse. The whole women thing. I’m very seriously considering total seclusion and hermitagehood. I hate not having friends to do activities with. I hate not doing activities. On the flip side, I’m applying for a full time Desktop Publishing position right on the heels of Domino’s loosing 6 drivers. If the position were given, my schedule should look something like this:

    Monday

    0700: Wake
    0800: Arrive DTP job site
    1700: Depart DTP job site

That brings us to a grand total of 100 hours of work a week, providing +/- $3200/mo. The thought is that I would owe about half of the car in three month’s time, provided that nothing goes wrong with credit card spending.

I’ll give you the substituting motion blur for dramatic effect, and its overuse. It’s gay. However, and this is interesting, they have poured tons of cash into CGI trying to recreate handheld/stedicams for the effect it offers. There are time, even in multi-million dollar pictures in which that effect is desired, and for the most part, when used conservatively, at key points, I can appreciate its use.

We’ll see what Oliver Stone will deliver…

Then again, some of us won’t. The funny thing is, not only do I despise nearly everything he has ever done, I also think the man himself, is stupid. Let’s play point and counterpoint, shall we? Let’s suppose you argue that because he is successful, that proves he is NOT stupid. I reply that his success is based solely upon his popularity among moviegoers, which are also, for the most part, stupid.

That’s because you’re 20. You’ll get over it soon enough. In fact, you’ll get over it before you manage to actually do anything about it. I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you. In fact, those that know you’re 20, will just dismiss anything you have to say on this topic anyway.

  • I’ll grant your point on Stone whilst reminding you that he is the one responsible for Scarface, ergo he can deliever a semi-decent product.

  • Don’t think i could bear seeing/reliving 911 over again – you want something really scary check out what this guy is talkin’ about

  • Interesting post.  I’m not sure whether or not I want to see United 93, but a lot of my friends do.  Maybe I’ll go see it.

Thanks for the comments!    I really appreciate them.

RYC::  I guess it is a wee bit hypocritical, but I turned 21 already so I’ve been out of the teens for 2 years now.  Plus I get told I act more mature than my age, and the actions and (a lot of the time) ignorance of many of my peers when I was a teenager was mindnumbing.

As for your query on guys and girls, I was always under the impression that girls DID like romantic, nice guys.  I’m definitely one of them.  But meh…girls confuse me as much as guys do now, I think.  They say the want the nice boys, but then find a guy like my boyfriend and just rip him to shreds because he’s one of those “nice guys”.  Then they run off with a “bad boy” who’ll just break their heart and leave them knocked up.  Girls can be really stupid.

  • the trade towers were indeed nice. I think it is a shame that many movies made before the bombings but schedualed to be released afterwards were refilmed to show the new skyline.

  • Yup.  It is a big step.

Sorry I couldn’t go to the theater with you!
