  • The Gods Became Flesh

I just brushed my teeth. I feel like David Spritz from The Weatherman(Amazon, IMDB).

    Dave

    That was refreshing

Unfortunately, I don’t feel refreshed nor will I claim to be refreshing. Not right now, not today.

ehowton has a theory that if you post about several different topics the topic that people remember most is the last topic and it will get the most comments. I hope that is not the case today because I want to ask a question right off the bat and hopefully get 100% audience participation.

The past couple of blogs to me have been meaningless and remind me too much of Dan’s site, though in my defense I must say (to you Eric) that I have had wonderful audience interaction. I will agree that Xanga needs threaded comments. Of course, we all know their stance on that, so my thought is that we will have to petition them often and loudly about it. In fact, just for you Eric, I sent john a message on the topic just now. I urge you too as well. Perhaps it could be part of our daily routine until we get some kind of mandate. Who knows, perhaps we could get your antithesis TheTheologiansCafe to post a poll on this. If there is overwhelming support for the idea via his poll, then perhaps it will serve as said mandate since his site is the most popular Xanga site.

But back to the topic at hand! My question that I would like everyone to answer (perhaps with a little justification) is have you been disappointed with my blog entries since the voicepost?

I think that Dan has a very effective site in that I think that the format will garner much audience participation, but I still wonder if Xanga is the best forum for debating ideas. I will have to say that given the studies that indicate that the average level of education is greater on LJ then Xanga and given that there are most substantive posts on LJ then Xanga, I wonder if I am truly on the wrong forum for getting my voice herd. Comments on this thought are also greatly appreciated.

One last thought while I am on the topic: I know everyone hates to read long posts or that at the very least, looking at one on the page is very daunting when there are so many other blogs that are vying for your attention. ehowton is of the opinion that ideally one should only post once a day. I have too many thoughts to parse in order to keep the length of the post down to a manageable size. Given these puzzle pieces, what is your thoughts on post length and posting several times a day? I have a theory that if you are going to attempt to talk about serious issues and you want to get the maximum feedback on those issues, the post should be no longer then a typed page and there should be plenty of time between posts to allow for comments. Thoughts on this issue would be helpful as well.

I must say that the most ingenious feature that LJ has is the cuts. Something tells me that it is but a simple HTML trick that could very easily be implemented here on Xanga without the Xanga gods getting involved.

    The Gods become Human
That’s right folks, it is now time for me to set aside my immortality and put on mortality. I have withheld sensitive personal information from you people for a week now; I think it is time you should finally know (in excruciating detail) what happened.

A couple of weeks ago, there was a lady who called Domohoe’s and asked for a printed receipt. Now, while this is a very viable and doable request, it is not normal in that when most people ask for a receipt, we tell them to use the labels on the edge of the box. But this was the fourth such request in two days. I told her that would be no problem. However, since the pizza was going to a hotel, I thought that if I merely wrote “print receipt” on the driver’s sticker that it would be ignored as a previous instruction. Instead, I chose to type “print fucking receipt”.

Apparently, this printed on the receipt. The customer turned it into her boss who in turn faxed the receipt to Ann Arbor, Domohoe’s corporate headquarters. Frankly, I think that upper management had been wanting to get rid of me for quite some time anyway and this just gave them an excuse. I would like to post the letter that I sent into the office here, but feel it would make the post too long.

I got the word Friday that I would be fired from my good friend Eclipsekid. That was at 1400. At 1700 when I showed up, the district manager informed me that I was suspended until the powers that be could meet and discuss the issue. Monday morning, I went down to the office to see what (if any) reconciliation could occur. At this point, it was suggested I write a letter. It wasn’t until Tuesday at 2030 that I was informed of their final decision.

After a week of no wages, I am inevitably insolvent.

Remember the Italian restaurant I was telling you about that I knew the owner and that I helped a bit during the construction? Well, amongst all the other places that I have already hit, I went by there. No, they are not open yet, but everything is decorated. There are just a few pieces of equipment that have to be installed on the line, but it should come together within a month and training will, I believe start sometime in the first two weeks of December, so he will open during the Christmas holiday season. And he didn’t want to open the weekend before Labor Day.

Well, I went by there yesterday and had a long talk with the owner and his assistant. I told them I wanted to be their hole-plugger i.e. that I show up with all possible uniforms and then go where the hole is on that given day. While they really like this idea and know that I could work any position, they wanted me to pick just one. The position I think I will start with is that of prep/dishwasher. Then, I will move up to a line cook. Then server. Hopefully, if I stick around long enough, I will be his first franchisee or at the very least GM of his second store. We shall see.

Likewise, I filled out an application for UPS on line Wednesday. I was able to fill out my I-9 online. That was definitely a first. The system scheduled me for an interview today at 1000. However, I got a call yesterday stating that because today is a Federal holiday, they wanted to reschedule my interview for 1400 the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. FedEx indicated that their open positions didn’t go into effect until after Thanksgiving. This is frustrating because I’ve always been able to find a place where not only could I get full-time (both the everywhere I’ve went but SteakOut and the Italian place, Terry Nova’s has been part-time only) but overtime within a most three days of searching.

I have the drive and will to do nothing and have considered joining the Air Force if they’d have me. Somehow, I doubt it.

I’ve listened to this CD all day everyday ever since I got it week or so ago. It’s stuck in my head and I can’t get it out.

To add to my woes I had a dental appointment yesterday. I have an advanced stage of gum disease. This compounds the fact that I am an orthodontist’s nightmare but a patient on whom he could retire. This was rather depressing. I had four fillings yesterday, and I think there are about ten more to come. By the time I have the money to address this problem…

There is a God, and It does perform miracles
I called Mom yesterday to finally tell them. I wasn’t going to tell them at all because I know they won’t help. But I couldn’t hold out any longer. Ironically, she said she was going to call me later on yesterday. I was shocked! That would have been the first time in God knows how long that I got a check up phone call from that end. We are to meet at 1200 today and dine somewhere here in town.

Yannow, if I went into the Air Force, I’d have medical and dental insurance plus doctors, dentists and lawyers at my disposal. But then I couldn’t work my way up in the restaurant. I wonder if my audience appreciates the justified text.

Purchased, but I forgot to tell you about it

  • 1.) Could you have POSSIBLY made this entry any longer?
2.) lj-cut are HTML-like tags specific to lj.
3.) I’ve actually been enjoying your posts more SINCE the voice post. Why? Because they’re shorter and more personal. Easy to read, easy to digest, fun to respond to. Not the shit you’re shoveling here.
4.) So sorry to hear about your dismissal. It’s not an easy thing sometimes to pay the consequences for our actions. “Print fucking receipt.” Nice.
5.) Good luck with the Italian place. It sounds like you’ve got the right idea there, working your way up through the trenches, which will also give you a unique perspective of the inner workings of this establishment. Good luck to you sir.
6.) Your Air Force comment is what we call a ‘self-fulfilling prophesy.’ You’ll never get anywhere with that attitude. When I joined the USAF they said, “You’re 202 pounds. You need to be 200 before you can join. I came back a month later at 185.” Hoo-ya!
7.) I’m glad you found some music (so to speak) that you enjoy. That always make life that much more fun – even during the hard times.
8.) Congrats on a free meal and visit time with the mother.
9.) Yannow, if I went into the Air Force, I’d have medical and dental insurance plus doctors, dentists and lawyers at my disposal. But then I couldn’t work my way up in the restaurant. <– You don’t have working your way up in a restaurant now! What you have is the hope of being able to do so. Those are two different things. Let’s say you join the Air Force to work in Food Service, and 4 years later end up being a 4-Star General’s personal chef? Which do you think will afford you the best opportunity for advancement in the private sector once you leave active duty? Starting as a dishwasher, or having not only an education behind you, but practical application of your trade as well? Think on this.

  • 1. It wasn’t that long.
    2. I would like to understand the mechanics of how it works though.
    3. You’re just pampered now since I’ve been making one line posts.
    4. Now you know…the resssst of the story.
    5. Thank you sir. I discussed this possibility, including franchising with the owner at length.
    6. Perhaps. But I do have several maladies.
    7. Yes, music is the language of the soul. The right song at the right time can ease the pain of anything, much like the right song can give you energy at a time when you need it most.
    8. It has to come to pass first. I’m expecting a cancellation.
    9. Granted. But then again, I could be stuck with KP duty serving privates for an entire six years. Besides, I don’t think I would take cooking. At least that wouldn’t be my first choice. But if I were allowed to go back and back and back for AIT…

I heard back from John. He said:
I’d like to completely overhaul the comments feature, to support not only threaded comments… but also open comments (i.e. you wouldn’t have to be a Xanga member to leave a comment). We’d also have to support comment moderation and comment spam filtering, as part of that…

  • It was a little long – certainly not the worst..

Someone i’ve been trading input w/ reminded me of a forgotten muisical balm -Rush -good shyte

Hope i’m wrong – don’t think you’d (like me) survive the AF or any military discipline – the up side is you’re young and more malleable – worth serious thought..

never – NEVER – put too much energy into a career path that isn’t your love -that’s not to say don’t work VERY HARD daily to make the $ you need to survive..

Love the audio -too long tho think max lucado – ron hutchcraft bits -deep/brevity -i could almost bear rush (not the band)

oh..and the surest way to git wit the ladies–tell ‘em all about your gum disease…

  • That’s funny Frank. LOL…Poor bastard.

  • You had asked where I had gotten that Howard Hughes audio clip from… I can’t recall for sure but I think it was from a link that was on this site. http://www.jonhs.net/freemovies/index.php  I have gone back since and not been able to find the sound clips link again, I am not sure what changed. For the most part it is just a collection of links to movies and videos that were either never copyrighted or else the copyright has expired.  You might find something there that interests you, though… a lot of old stuff available.

As you may or may not know, I am kind of a fan of old black and white movies, so that is the reason I have such a site on my favorites list. Take care!

  • *ponders*

Well, maybe I’m in the minority on this…but I like long posts I’d rather have a more complete picture than just half the story.

I used LJ for a little while and was disappointed with it. Xanga seems to be more “community” oriented, though more users might be a bit younger (and sometimes extremely immature and stupid). I don’t know which one would be best for getting your voice out there.

Sorry to hear about your other troubles Don’t really know what to say about the dental part…but I hope you can get a job that you like That’s the most important thing – to do something you love. Oh, and from some friends I’ve talked to, it’s hard to get into the Air Force because they’ve been downsizing as of late. At least, that’s what I’ve heard…

  • Please explain what you mean by “prepare to convert to Islam”. I don’t really understand why I would need to do that, now that the Dems are in power.

  • You’re exactly right, taking that first step might involve some sort of pro activity on your part, and things might not turn out perfect. Best just to wither away and die in obscurity after finishing your mediocre life. You’re right and I’m wrong. Sorry to bother you.

  • this is point and counterpoint, not ass and asshole.

  • It’s more like Ostrich hunter. You keep burying your head, and I keep kicking you in the ass.

  • that’s a great line. I’m gonna let it have space for glory and not touch it.

  • and actually, i didnt mean to post that without saying anything about your post. it’s wicked long, and kind of hard to understand actually, you jump around a lot lol. but nice one on the reciept. =]

  • RYC: Yeah, I’m worried how the military budget is going to be handled now too My husband is trying to do this for a living…they better keep in mind that a lot of families depend on it.

If you really like the restaurant business idea, I say go for it There is a couple who opened a restaurant here in my city about six years ago, and they got so popular that they opened a second last year. They love doing it, and it shows. I think maybe that’s why they have such good business.

Did you see my post on Islam? Perhaps I should send it in a message to you

  • Well in all honesty, i was kind of taken back by the comment because of the fact that my boyfriend had just broken up with me, but it was kind, so thank you.

  • RYC: Yeah…Dems think that anyone who disagrees with them is evil. Especially soldiers like my husband. I find it ironic that there are some soldiers who are also Dems…it seems like that would mean self hate, would it not?

lol…I did read about the film part…I just forgot to address it. Silly I am

  • as i’ve been coming across your comments on TheTheologiansCafe, i was just wondering, but you’re Republican, right? Or you just have a strong dislike for that site. lol.

  • I just rolled over from JimmyJazz’s site to inform you – I know that you cannot live without knowing this – that I read that in the twelth or thirteenth century, King John of England offered to make Islam the official religion of England, if the Sultan of Morocco would pull him out of his difficulties, probably financial.

The Sultan refused the offer in disgust.

  • Hey handsome.

Haven’t talked to you in like forever and ever it seems…  I miss you

I think since the voice post, that you’re doing a better job at it. Like Eric said, more personal, easier to digest.

Biggest thing I’ve ever had against your post’s which your well aware of, is that you try to make yourself sound like this guy… when actually your just normal… so why try to act like someone you aren’t??

*hugs*I still luv ya, no matter if ya got a job or not.

I agree with your urgency to find a job, but… if your hitting walls here… then pray about it. *looks at you* Yes I know I just suggested something which borderlines on impossible. and that praying isnt your style, but I am not talking about Gother style… I’m saying like personal convo with God praying… *shakes my head* Yes I also know I’m asking for the world in that suggestion. But I trust you, and I luv you. And I am going to be there when you need me as much as possible. You know that.

You’ve got alot of people who love you and believe in you Tomas… don’t take them for granted. *hugs*

  • Hi there:

Read your e-mail, thought I’d come and get the nitty-gritty details.  I’ll send something back to you soon.

Sounds like you’re keeping your options open.  This is a good thing.  At this stage, I realize that answers need to come quickly.  And, yes, when you are fired, you are entitled to unemployment.

I was glad to hear that you are meeting with your Mom.  These attempts at connecting are important for both of you.

We’re thinking of you  ~  Terri
