  • Rachel Ray is Yum-o!

All this posting about food has made me hungry, so I’m going to make a post about food. First of all, I did indeed get together with my aunt and uncle this weekend. Down in the ‘ham, we dined like royalty at the fish market. I had grilled shrimp, rainbow trout that was to die for, amberjack, fried pickles and a baked potato. Only the shrimp and the trout were devoured there at the establishment; the rest I took home to make everyone jealous at work on Monday when it came lunchtime; alas, that wasn’t to be in the cards: I didn’t have the opportunity to take lunch either Monday or Tuesday. I did, however, enjoy the rest of my Sunday dinner Monday night.

While I was in the ‘ham, my uncle gave me a stern talking to and told me I was full of shit. He taught (taught is strong, rather he drove home) how to brainstorm, how to organize one’s thoughts and how to turn dreams into goals and then work towards them. I had to stop typing this post for an hour’s brainstorming session earlier.

Back to the topic of food, I don’t know why but I got a real hankerin’ for roast beef this afternoon at work, so I went to Cracker Barrel for dinner. While I was there, I started thinking about how I could throw something in the crock pot for dinner the next evening and let whatever cook all night and all day on low. That way, when I got home from work, I’d have a meal ready to eat, I wouldn’t have to go anywhere and I could take the leftovers in to work the next day for lunch. Furthermore, I might even get the place smelling good if I cooked some good meals. Mostly, I’m tired of eating out.

While I’m no follower of Rachel Ray, I think I might give this a go. So if any of you good kind heated folks have any crock pot recipes you want to bestow upon me, feel free to leave me a comment. Bonus points go out for picking a vegetable or two to go with it. I’m a meat and potatoes kind of guy, so this shouldn’t be too difficult. Maybe some day soon, I’ll move to a better apartment where I won’t be afraid to leave personal effects out on the porch. When that day comes, I’ll buy a grill and then I could grill fish to boot!

    P. S. Anyone who can find a poster of for me to hang in my kitchen and look at while I’m cooking will get a finder’s fee upon delivery of the goods.

EDIT: All you sick fuckers that come here just for Rachel Ray’s picture without leaving me a comment can burn in hell. Xanga allows for anonymous comments, fuckers!

  • Here’s my favorite crock-pot recipe, I hope you enjoy it:

    1. Throw a bunch of shit in the crock-pot.
    2. Turn it on.

  • Good morning, Tomas!

I was reminded to visit & I have done so.  (I can’t believe the poster!  You know, you can tell it’s a fake — imagination is 3/4′s of the thrill, I guess!)  As I was reading about how you have decided to experiment with food in a crock pot, I was reminded of a conversation I had with you on this subject a long time ago over the phone.  I guess some people are slow learners!!

Eric’s recipe isn’t probably going to create the desired smells in your apartment, so I would suggest purchasing a chunk of beef or pork, maybe a chuck steak or Boston Butt (pork).  Here, we are usually in the $2.00 a lb. range (depending on sales).  A bag of potatoes are fairly cheap, & baby carrots are good too.  Find the soup aisle in the store, locate dried onion soup.  When throwing it together, put the meat in the bottom, veggies next, topping with the soup mix, which is the seasoning.  Most crocks create a “steamy” interior as they cook.  Depending on the fat in the meat, it’s not necessary to add a lot of water.  Doing this around 7:00 a.m., leaving it on high (?) until around 3:00 or 4:00 should do it.  If you wish to start it at night and smell it cooking while you sleep, this is certainly your choice.

Alternative combinations:  Chicken, soup & rice;  ham and chopped cabbage, onions & carrots, Western ribs (cut up pork strips) with BBQ sauce, & I haven’t even really mentioned different soups that are good in the crock!  (The only thing that can be tricky is noodles — too much time cooking slowly turns them to mush)  Your seasonings really have to be to your taste:  Here, we love & use liberally, garlic, onions, italian herbs, worsechestshire (I know it’s not spelled right, just my best guess!) sauce.  Peppers & hot sauce would be an option if its your thing.  Really, after you start playing around with this, the sky is the limit — much cheaper & better for you over the long run too!

Now, about that apple pie . . . .  Good luck, Tomas.  Let me know how it goes.

  • Good luck on the apple pie girl Furbie. Don’t think you’ll find her though.

Somehow, it doesn’t surprise me in the least to find out that you are drooling all over her.

As to the crock pot thing-a-ma-bob — mum covered that fairly well.

I made buritto’s even mom had one and liked it… this coming from the woman who hates anything even minorly similar to mexican food…

Btw … I go to GR tomorrow morning — whether I talk to you before then I am unsure of, however — if I dont *hug* also — may want to be prepared to listen to me rant… it’s possible it won’t be necessary, but… it’s a pretty good bet I’ll be ready to unload on someone.

    Catch you later

  • working on your poster now…
