I’m Proud to be an American
There’s nothing that makes me feel more patriotic then voting in this great country. Indeed, I felt like my head was in the clouds after voting yesterday. And to top it off, [info]ehowton sent me this video to watch. I can honestly say that

I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
And gave that right to me

I still haven’t come to terms with going and defending the country yet. Maybe I should just get my shit together and go join up.

Workin’ in a Coal Mine, Goin’ down down down…
Yesterday was a slow day overall at work. I had a recent tiff with the powers that be: I’m now working the late shift by myself three days a week every week and I feel like a bigger crab for it. Yes, I’ve gotten more sleep on those mornings when I didn’t have to be in so early but then I have very little free time when I get home. I’m so sick of working a shit job with shit pay. I’ve found a couple of places to apply if I can ever find the time to work on my resume when I’m in a half-way decent humor.

Speaking of work, The Great Willy Bama starts working in the Hell Hole with me and I’m hoping I get to train him. If nothing else, it will be nice to see a friend five days a week and maybe have lunch together every now and again. I like to think of this as a sitcom spinoff of [info]ehowton and [info]drax0r with myself in [info]ehowton‘s role.

What Will doesn’t know is that he will get a Live Journal if I start training him because I like to read my friend’s list and comment from time to time during the day. So I need two favors from you my faithful readers: First of all, starting next Tuesday, I need a good two weeks of stellar content from all of you. Secondly, I need everyone to go over to Will’s Xanga and leave him a bunch of comments in an attempt to convince him that he should move to live journal. Links to specific LJ comments or posts will work too. Remember: Xanga offers anonymous commenting now just like LJ so drop him a note…make him figure out who you are.

All I have to do is dream
In other news, I have found a story to adapt. It will take a lot of work and even if I can’t secure the rights it will be good practice. Wish me luck.

OH!!! Speaking of other news, be sure to check out the link at the top of my LJ. It is an RSS feed of things that I have found worth passing on from my feeds. Most of the content comes from either Engadget or Coding Horror, with other minor feeds thrown in. This is made possible by Google Reader‘s sharing feature. Be sure to keep an eye on that link for time to time or I might have to keep sending [info]ehowton news stories over AIM and that won’t be good for any of us.

  • Coveting iPod

While I had other things in mind for my first post in ’08, I have to share this with you now.

Some of you may remember that I was going to work for a friend of mine who was starting his own restaurant here in town at the end of ’06. I wasn’t able to make the training because even though I was going to work for him during the day, I was working at the TeeVee station at night, but that’s when he decided to do his training. (This was due, in large part, to the fact that people who had worked under him at a prominent chain restaurant here in town were going to work for him part-time.) After the three weeks of training, I was only able to make three days because of his scheduling. Therefore, I decided not to work for him. (As an ex-manger of mine, he also brought another ex-co-manger along with him. She and I butted heads before and was the reason I quit at the first restaurant. Suffice it to say she played a role in this one as well.)

Because I had only worked for him something like three hours on three different days, I didn’t feel like harassing him for a stipend check. I figured if it was that important he would mail me the check as previous business had. Such was not the case, so I figured the ex-co-manager decided not to pay me. I was cool with that too.

But I did get a W2 from them in the mail last night. So I called them up and said, “Hey, I just got a W2 from you, but I never got the money that you said you paid me, so can you check you records?” Apparently, they cut me checks but it was their policy not to mail them. Since I never came to pick them up (the check would be a year old at this point) and considering the fact that they were going to have to write me a new check anyway, when the check is cashed I’ll have enough money to pay cash for that shiny new iPod Classic that I’ve been coveting for the past while.

I will not be purchasing the 160GB version as that would mean that ehowton and I would not have matching iPods. Not matching is not cool. Besides, I don’t have 160 GB of Judas Priest to give him.
