Xanga Idea Placeholder
I just submitted a Xanga idea. I’ve submitted four now, but was under the assumption that I could get to my ideas at anytime. Not if they don’t get voted on. (You can vote to have a way back to your Xanga ideas here NOTE: Xanga has added a recent link on the Xanga ideas page and has provided a Next>> link for idea perusal).
Here are my ideas (will bump to keep this fresh and also as I go back and find the other ideas that I’ve submitted)
Automatic Arragnement of Avatars by Usage.
Abiltiy to Choose Profile Pictures for Pulses
Separate RSS feed for Pulse
Multiple Cut Tags per PostGO VOTE!
Comments (21)
I think these are some good ideas. Out of these 4, I do like the RSS feed for pulse, as I do many pulses throughout the day.

I’ve been pulsing lately and think it would be nice to have a seperate RSS feed, but it is more annoying to me to have to search for the profile pic I want both for Pulsing and my posts. I think visually (which is one reason that it takes me so long to create posts) when I blog.
I have a post that I’m going to put up later today that, it you go to my Live Journal and look at hte cross-post, you will see that the design of the post calls for a cut-tag in the middle of the post to remove some visual clutter and information that is not the meat of what I want to communicate. Think of it as a director’s cut. With the cut-tag in place, you’re getting the theatrical version, but if you hit the link on the cut, you’re getting the director’s cut and get to see the tangent that I went off on. My gripe with Xanga’s current model is that you’re not getting the theatrical cut, you’re getting the projector breaking in the middle of the film.
Thanks for all your help and the reccomend. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me in the short time that we’ve known each other.
Great stuff, but I’m not getting the last one with out an explanation…
Question: I don’t know exactly what is meant by multiple cut tags per post… Call me PC-retarded, but I don’t get it. Explain?

no problem. All are good ideas, to be honest. I put one up myself about Xanga creating some API’s.
@edlives -
I voted. Thoug I do feel a little cheated because you know how I voted because Xanga doesn’t allow for no votes. (That might be a good thing.) Imagine if Xanga were a true democracy. *shudders*
yeah, it’s not a silent election.
I solved all those problems by not using Xanga. Use Livejournal instead. All the cool kids are doing it – even you!

Thankfully, despite the fact you signed off AIM before I explained what was going on, you came and read this post anyway. I was going to ask you to recommend the post as a personal favor (click the little heart above the comment box).
Yes, LJ has solved each of these problems. But as I cross-post, I am trying to get features that each service has on both so that I can enjoy the same user experience on both blogs.
As you know, I am one for not just talking about change but rather doing something about the status quo to bring about the change that I desire. I’m getting an opportunity to do so here.
Thanks for your support!

Back in June, Xanga introduced Cut Tags. The idea here is that you want to make a really long post but you want people to read the post, so you cut out the tangents, diatribes, etc. so that your post looks shorter on your friend’s subscription page.
As ehowton just pointed out Live Journal long ago solved the problem. If you want to see how Live Journal implements cut tags, click here.
The one problem with Xanga’s implementation is that you can only use one cut tag in a post and you can’t uncut it like you can on Live Journal. This means that when you put a cut tag in your post, that’s the end of the post on your friend’s subscription list.
What needs to happen is for Xanga to support a close cut tag like LJ does. In this way, one will be able to post something, cut out parts in the middle and have post left over at the end.
As I mentioned to edlives, I have a post that I am going to put up later today that uses cut tags. I cross post on Live Journal at http://schpydurx.livejournal.com I would encourage you to take a look at how the post is presented on my front page here on Xanga and then also on my Live Journal. (I’m thinking about posting between 1000 and 1200 CST. If you like, I can Pulse it when I do so you can have a look.)
When cut tags were first introduced, they were well received, but the one complaint was that you couldn’t close them. If Xanga supports closing cut tags, then we can have multiple cuts. Maybe I should ask john to modify my description so that I am asking for the ability to close cut tags instead of saying multiple cut tags. One implies the other, but one is more precise.
Thanks for stopping by!
Sorry about the edit. Bad HTML.

Wait…did you just call me a cool kid? How cool am I?
@ProfessorTom -
As you know, I know exactly what you’re about, and its not change sir. Not even accidentally. You’re all about big talk over the status quo without one measure of motivation to do anything about it. You’re so goddamned anti-action that when I read that paragraph I experienced an involuntary pharyngeal reflex. You may fool your other readers, but to openly suggest that you’re a man of action? How many times have I heard you bemoan the fact that you should do any number of things in regards to the direction of your life, yet took a step back from the plate out of apathy and the fear of failing – the fear of even trying! YOU ARE ONE FOR JUST TALKING ABOUT CHANGE. You have no experience in real change – its simply a cerebral concept for you. Something you and your other college-dropout buddies talk about on a level you really don’t understand!
GOYA! You mentioned this to me earlier this week, yet that post is almost two years old. I don’t care what you do, as long as you DO SOMETHING. And no, I don’t consider the above suggestions applicable activities to compensate for your aimless life.
Awesome, thanks for the explanation.
@TheMarriedFreshman -
No problem.
@ProfessorTom -
You have your moments.
@ehowton -
I think you just don’t know the new me.
We’ve talked a lot about this behind the scenes. In fact, that’s kinda what I was talking about in my Regrets post. (btw, check out dwell’s comment on LJ) Though it was the dumbest thing I ever did, it woke me from my delirium. I have since put my best foot forward, gotten a promotion at work, have steadily worked on getting out of debt and have a real plan for the next two years for bettering myself so I can raise the standard of living of those around me.
Yes, in the past I would have just moaned and groaned and perhaps there should be no recognition for submitting ideas through Xanga Ideas since there were no previous posts bitching about the lack of closing cut tags, avatar arrangements and the like. But I am taking a stand now and am asking others to take a stand with me because I will not be the beneficiary were the changes I have asked for in this post to come to pass.
Do you think we can put aside our political differences and form a bipartisan effort on this issue? There will be plenty other things for us to fight over in the near future, I assure you.
@ehowton -
Thanks little buddy!
Uhm if you keep the link you can always get back to it
@radicalramblings -
This is true. When I first submitted my idea, I thought that we would be able to get back to where we came from. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case and I wasn’t made aware of this fact until after I had posted my ideas.
Because Team Xanga implemented browsing Xanga Ideas, I was able to get the links which was the point of this post. (besides asking for your vote of coures
)
P.S. I love your avatar. It’s a shame that Ron Paul didn’t fight harder for the presidency.
Both the profile-pic choices on pulses and multiple cut tags are good ideas! I’ve never used a cut tag for the very reason you listed… it ends your post, and I don’t want to unceremoniously end my posts.

Then go vote, tell all your friends and recommend this post.
