Obamanation
Alright, I know that I have in recent years tried to keep my ramblings about the kids away from the blog…however, today I just have to share my jarbled thoughts about President Obama’s– doesn’t that look great!– inauguration, and my kids might spill over into this as they spent a great deal of this election actively following it.
Actually, that is the first place I want to start. I have a five year old political junkie on my hands and I love it. It all started with the fact that I listen to NPR in the car as I drive around and as such they too must listen. Wouldn’t you know that my amazingly smart children have both decided that Obama would be the best choice for president? Bless you my children, I couldn’t agree more. While my three year old has been happy to just get giddy at the mention of our now president’s name, it is my older son who could readily tell you how many days until the election, or the swearing in of the new president. He could even tell you that then Senator Obama wanted to ‘make the war go away’ and ‘make people not have their homes go away’ anymore. How wonderful.

To which I have this to say:
If your kids are so smart and well adjusted, I want to know how the feel about being more susceptible to terrorist attacks now that Club Gitmo is being closed down. I want to know how they think they will feel when they see their mother blown to bits in front of them when a suicide bomber detonates himself in the middle of peaceful business here on American soil.
Do your kids think it’s fair that people can get loans that they can’t afford and then have the government steal money from hard working citizens to pay for those loans? Most importantly, do your kids really think that bringing the troops home somehow magically ends the war, makes America loved the globe over and decimates all enemies both foreign and domestic henceforth?
When they can answer these questions, then we’ll talk about about how smart and well adjusted your kids are.

That’s so disturbing to me, but so much a reality. I think it’s great if kids gain an interest in what’s going on in the world at an early age so that hopefully they will be more engaged later in life when it really matters (i.e. when they vote). However, it’s not effective if you’re feeding them ‘the kool-aid’. My kids could just as easily be excited about Carl Marx or Adolf Hitler if that’s what I choose to expose them to and make them think is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Those are harsh questions, but it’s true. No three year old could wrap their head around the complexities of war or why we’re at war or Gitmo or terrorists. I don’t care how smart they are. That isn’t the burden they should be carrying. It doesn’t sound like the parent(s) is smart enough or well-adjusted enough to answer those questions herself.
@DirtyAndShaken – That was my point. I was decrying how that she thinks it’s such a great thing that her kids think Lord Obama is the savior of the world, yet, look at the ramifications of what he’s already done.
There are some great responses on the cross post.
Smart and well adjusted?
Sure…kids can be very smart, and it’s good to see them interested in these things at an early age. However, if you feed them propaganda, of course they’ll be able to spit it right back out at you! How do you think socialist and communist countries work? They feed the little ones propaganda from birth. Start them young. Our media has sunk to such levels that they fail to report history in most cases. Rather, they try to create history by pushing political agendas.
Having hope for change and believing in your leader is wonderful and all. But if you don’t actually understand what policies he has always supported and what policies he is implementing now, you’re just following him blindly based off of warm fuzzies.
I love my country. But I have always thought it somewhat dangerous to love your leader. Especially one who believes that the constitution is “fundamentally flawed.”
@firetyger – Hope. Change.
Obama. Obama. Obama. Obama.
Suicide bombers can be American citizens, too. They don’t have to be foreigners. Also, I couldn’t stand the idea of Guantanamo, anyway. And that’s all I”m saying on the matter, because I don’t like to get into politics, because it can only end in a flare up.
@IfonEarth – Alrighty then.
@trunthepaige – Let’s see if they still love him six months from now when they’re standing in a soup line.
Yeah those “my little babies love Obama’ topics are such sickening drivel
@firetyger - you are so dead on right i agree with you
@ProfessorTom - great post,
I was merely disappointed by this whole election
when i asked people who they voted for and why, they couldnt give me a damn good answer on why they voted for obama.
“cuz he is younger and he believes in us”
“cuz he is cool”
yeah tell that to the people when they see if his stuttering problem will answer questions to the world leaders.
or for that matter, to US the people of the US (we’ve seen he already has issues with that).
and then again, the people of the US voting for the “cool guy”
BLAH!
@bluedreamer85 – I always said that this last election was a popularity contest and not about issues. I hate being right all the time.
@DirtyAndShaken - It’s Karl with a K. Thought you should know.
But anyways…
Kids are wonderfully imaginative, precocious, little things, but they are also amazingly stupid and limited in their understanding of “complex” issues. A kid who thinks Obama is Lord and Saviour isn’t much when you think about the fact that this same kid also probably believes in the Tooth Fairy. They’ll believe whatever you want them to believe, because kids are naive.
Also, people need to realize even if America “ends” the war, there was always a war in the Middle East. It’ll keep going no matter what. To quote Billy Joel, “We didn’t start the fire, it’s been burning since the world’s been turning.”
It’s just a fact. I think America going to war has had mixed results and varied consequences, but it has never changed the fact that war has been part of the Middle East for years!
Also, I’m glad that Obama is shutting down Guatanamo Bay. I just have to wonder what is he going to do with the prisoners it held. My thought: put it in the middle of the Southwestern Desert. Nuke them, then we can have a “The Hills Have Eyes” themepark with REAL MUTANTS!!

@treelights – Minus your thoughts on Club Gitmo, I agree with you 100%.
Most of the terrorist thugs in Club Gitmo have already been released. The remaining ones are up for bids. Virgina has asked for them as has the illusturious Represenative from Pennsylvania, Jack Murtha.
@ProfessorTom - Why in the hell are we auctioning off prisoners? What? I thought the whole point of closing down the prison was to move it off foreign soil or whatever, say “Welcome to America!” and then shove them in another high-security prison?
Pfft. I guess the death penalty is off the table?
– Soledad
@treelights – The death penalty is cruel to some.
@ProfessorTom - I don’t know. I’ve always thought a quick and swift assassination could solve a lot of problems.
I don’t think killing someone is necessarily morally right, but, morality isn’t the world’s strong point.
Of course, I might just have that train of thought because I watched a lot espionage and noir films, where a bullet easily got a man off your back.
But yeah, I’m really confused about this Guatanamo Bay stuff. Do you have a link that could explain it all? Or is it all right now just speculation?
– Soledad
*WAIT* I also cannot tell what your icon is of. The hat and the wrinkles remind me of Freddy Kreuger. So, may I ask, what is your icon of?
– Soledad
@treelights – Parcher from A Beautiful Mind
@treelights – You could always try looking it up on Wikipedia. If you’re looking for the story on Jack Murtha, Click Here.
@ProfessorTom - Thanks. *scuttles off to read*
Oh, and yeah, sorry for taking up all of your comment space.
Heh,
