The purpose was to get people to read the bill and then call their representatives office’s to discuss the bill since our non-representing representatives say they won’t read it

This email has been going around. You may have already seen it. Since I can’t validate these claims, I’ll simply report them here and let you decide.

One day in the House of Representatives a bill was taken up appropriating money for the benefit of a widow of a distinguished naval officer. Several beautiful speeches had been made in its support. The Speaker was just about to put the question when Crockett arose:

Mr. Speaker–I have as much respect for the memory of the deceased, and as much sympathy for the sufferings of the living, if suffering there be, as any man in this House, but we must not permit our respect for the dead or our sympathy for a part of the living to lead us into an act of injustice to the balance of the living. I will not go into an argument to prove that Congress has not the power to appropriate this money as an act of charity. Every member upon this floor knows it. We have the right, as individuals, to give away as much of our own money as we please in charity; but as members of Congress we have no right so to appropriate a dollar of the public money. Some eloquent appeals have been made to us upon the ground that it is a debt due the deceased. Mr. Speaker, the deceased lived long after the close of the war; he was in office to the day of his death, and I have never heard that the government was in arrears to him.

Every man in this House knows it is not a debt. We cannot, without the grossest corruption, appropriate this money as the payment of a debt. We have not the semblance of authority to appropriate it as charity. Mr. Speaker, I have said we have the right to give as much money of our own as we please. I am the poorest man on this floor. I cannot vote for this bill, but I will give one week’s pay to the object, and if every member of Congress will do the same, it will amount to more than the bill asks.”

He took his seat. Nobody replied. The bill was put upon its passage, and, instead of passing unanimously, as was generally supposed, and as, no doubt, it would, but for that speech, it received but few votes, and, of course, was lost.

It’s amazing what you can learn if you make a few phone calls and do your homework.

Yesterday morning I called Parker Griffith’s office to *ahem* politely remind him who he works for and to vote NAY on HR 3200. His staffer encouraged me that Griffith would not vote for the bill as is. In fact, he told me that Griffith has introduced two pieces of legislation.

The first would require that Congress take the public option if HR 3200 passes (as first reported by Alabama News Platoon). The second piece of legislation requires that a vote be suspend on the bill for a week after presentation so that there will be time to read the thing.

Despite this good news, I saw that Pelosi & Co. were planning to use this trick: House to Use Controversial Budget Reconciliation Process to Pass Healthcare Reform

Americans for Limited Government just released a statement Congressman Parker Griffith (D-AL) Opposes “ObamaCare”.

Keep calling your non-representing representatives and remind them who they work for. Tell them to vote NO on HR 3200.

I called Senator Sessions’ office to find out why he was not supportive of filibustering Sotomayor’s nomination. For this I was transferred to the Judicial Committee staff where they kept telling me that although Sessions has not addressed the issue publicly, the fact of the matter is that the Committee is 12/7 in favor of the Democrats and they have the 60 votes in the general chamber to break a filibuster. So though Sessions hasn’t come out and said it, the truth of the matter is it would be a futile effort and isn’t worth spending the political capital.

During my search for Senator Sessions Washington office number, I found that he sponsored a piece of legislation that would mandate that any Federal money that was left over from budgets at the end of the year should go to paying down the National Deficit. See site for details.

Wetumpka – Local Tea Party organizer Eric Gerrittson slams Representative Tom Periello of Virginia for “attempting to silence American voices.”

Along with Secretary of Energy Steven Chu and Energy Secretary Tom Vilsack, Congressman Periello was discussing “Cap & Trade” and fielding questions at an event on Saturday night in Danville, Virginia, which was attended by African-American local Tea Party activist Nigel Coleman and six others. The Campus Conservative reports that the Tea Party activists were not given an opportunity to ask questions and that when they went to their car to retrieve their signs, they were escorted off the premises by armed Danville Sheriff’s deputies. After being forced to leave, the activists were tailed by an unmarked police car.

“This is outrageous. These are Gestapo tactics,” said Eric Gerrittson. “Are we still living in America? I thought dissenting voices were a form of patriotism.”

Gerrittson has recently been in the news for his submission of six hundred Alabamian signatures which petitioned Congressman Bobby Bright to vote against socialized medicine.

“I don’t know how Bobby Bright will vote,” said Gerrittson. “We hope he votes against socialized medicine, but at least he’s willing to listen to opposing viewpoints. Apparently, freedom of speech isn’t very important to Congressman Periello. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Coleman and the people of Virginia.”

NOTE to Bobby Bright: Only a fool would vote YEA for HR 3200.

We need more Americans like Buzz Aldrin who don’t take shit off of nobody. Please note that Buzz is in his 80′s, yet he has no qualms about expressing how he feels about conspiracy theorists that say the moonwalk was faked. Let’s take a look:

Huntsville, AL – Instead of taking lunch at the noon hour, concerned citizens gather across from the Clinton Ave. Post Office to protest, voicing their concerns about HR 3200, America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 aka Healthcare for All Americans aka Obamacare. Early unofficial estimates put the number of people who attended or dropped off letters between 150 and 300.

Jan Nolin coordinated the event on behalf of the Huntsville Tea Party Movement. Protesters held their signs on the edge of the road displaying their disgust with HR 3200.

The center of activity was the collection point table where concerned citizens brought their letters of disapproval, urging Griffith to uphold his promise to vote against the bill. Also on the table was a postcard petition that took Griffith up on an amendment which he claimed to support. This amendment would require Congress to take the public option if the bill passed. Additionally, there was a postcard petition that urged Griffith to support the Fair Tax.

As the crowd waited out the lunch hour to march their letters to Giffith’s office, activists took turns speaking encouragement to the group, reminding the attendees of freedoms lost and how those in Congress were no-reprepsenting representatives who wouldn’t read the bills they voted on. On hand was a copy of Hr 3200–all 1018 pages of it!–held together with a bungee cord.

At the appointed time, Huntsville Police Officers directed traffic to allow the protesters to safely cross the street. The procession peacefully marched all the way up to the entrance of the door instead of stopping on the sidewalk. Channel 48 and 31 rolled tape hoping for conflict, but got none. No law enforcement officers were called to restrain the demonstrators. Rather, when Tea Party organizers who were leading from behind saw what was occurring, the procession was backed up to the sidewalk. From there, handfuls of personal letters and petition cards were delivered to Griffith’s office.

The procession made the short march back to the site of the protest and disassembled peacefully.

NEWS FLASH: HR 3200 makes private health insurance illegal. No new policies, only existing ones.

Right there on page 16 as reported by Investor’s Business Daily.

Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day of Y1 [the year the legislation becomes law].

Dear Fellow Patriot,

You have been making a difference all across this country since February. You have made your voices heard. Many in the mainstream media have scoffed at us. Some on our side have asked if we are able to keep the momentum going. Others want to know if our movement is growing or not. The politicians whose policies we are working to defeat have tried to ignore us.

We are here to tell you, we are making a difference! We are strong! We are united! We love this country and have her best interests at heart! We have and will continue to make our voices heard!

And, right now is the time to do it. We are in for what may very well be the most important political fight of our lifetime. And we mean lifetime literally. In the future, our very lives may depend on our actions today.

You probably know at least 1 person who has had an abnormal medical test. Maybe you have had it yourself. Maybe it was a family member or a loved one. After that first abnormal test, the doctor usually schedules more tests, maybe refers you to a specialist, and works to determine what the diagnosis is. Waiting for those tests and the results can feel like the longest wait in the world. You worry that something is wrong. You hope that nothing is wrong. You think, “Is it serious? Do I have cancer or some other terrible disease? Is it malignant? Maybe it will be benign. Maybe the doctors are wrong.” You wait. And you worry. Luckily, in our health care system today in America, that wait is only days or maybe a couple of weeks. And, if the diagnosis is serious and requires further treatment, doctors work to treat your problem right away.

Imagine if that wait were months and months long. Imagine if some government bureaucrat said, “You will have to wait for 4 months until we have the time and doctors to treat you.” Imagine that few days or weeks turning to months. What if the problem were serious? What if the wait time caused you to miss your treatment window? What if it were your mom? Your spouse? Your child? This happened to Shona Holmes. A couple of weeks ago, Amy Kremer and I had the privilege to meet Shona Holmes and hear her story first hand. The liberal tax and spend politicians want to takeover our health care. They want control not just of our wallets but also our very lives. These politicians realize what is at stake. If the bill passes, bureaucrats in Washington will determine when you can see a doctor, which doctor you can see, and whether or not you can actually have treatment. Is this what you want? Are you going to let politicians takeover your health care?

The bill that will allow the government to takeover our health care was introduced today. It is 1,018 pages long. The politicians know that if you have time to read the bill you will not want it. They are not willing to allow honest debate and honest review of amendments. Speaker Pelosi and the House of Representatives are trying to rush passage of this bill, this one thousand eighteen page bill, by the time they go on summer vacation on July 31.

Are you willing to fight for control of your personal health care? Do you want the government to takeover your health care?

The heat is on! It is make or break time.

As I write this, Wednesday July 15, the Labor and Education Committee in the House is marking up the bill. That committee will probably pass the bill out of committee this week Wednesday or Thursday. On Thursday, the Ways and Means Committee and also the Energy and Commerce Committee in the House will be marking up the bill. Those committees are also trying to pass the bill out of committee this week – as in Thursday or Friday.

If you do not want the government to take control of your physical well being in addition to your wallets, then you must act. We must act quickly, decisively, and relentlessly. Here is what you can do:

1. On Wednesday, July 15, call every single member of the Labor and Education Committee (Click here for list and phone numbers). Ask the questions below of the staff. Record your answers in this form. We want to keep up with the number of calls, emails, and faxes that are made into Congress.

2. On Thursday, July 16, call every single member of both the Ways and Means and the Energy and Commerce committees in the House (click here for list and phone numbers). Ask the questions below of the staff. Record your answers in this form. We want to keep up with the number of calls, emails, and faxes that are made into Congress.

3. Attend the Tea Party Patriots Health Care Freedom Protest in your area. Take an hour off of work. Are your health care and the physical well being of your family members important enough to you to spend an hour making sure your voice is heard? While you are there, we need you to do 3 things: sign the Free Our Health Care Now Petition, Sign the Letter to your Representative or Senator and hand deliver it to their office, and hold your signs opposing government takeover of your health care.

4. On Monday, July 20, call every single Blue Dog Democrat, those are Democrats who say they are fiscally conservative (click here for list and phone numbers). Again, record your answers in this form. We want to keep up with the number of calls, emails, and faxes that are made into Congress.

5. Be prepared to make more phone calls next week.

Have a little more time? Want to do a little more? – Forward this email to everyone in your list. Ask them to take these actions as well. Make phone calls to your friends and family to make sure they understand what is at stake.

Really want to go a little further? Have the time to make a large commitment to keeping control of your health care? – Print the Free Our Health Care Now Petition. Now, take that petition and walk up and down your street asking your neighbors to sign it. Ask them if they will print the letter and email it to their elected officials. If they are passionate, then forward this email to them and ask them to call each and every Blue Dog Democrat.
