  • Coward of the Camera

Through no fault of my own, I got home from work at 2330 last night. Suffice it to say that this was due to a combination of miscommunication/non-communication and worst case scenarios playing themselves out. Because of this, my review of G.I. Joe amongst other recent films will be delayed at least two days. I have a town hall meeting tonight night I need to attend and have more important articles that need to be written plus more work.

In preparation for the DC trip coming up next moth, I finally broke down and bought a camera choosing the Nikon S560 as pictured here:

Hopefully I have taken my last picture with the camera in my phone, which, I might add, I could probably count the number of photos taken with the camera phone on my fingers.

I’m already unhappy with this purchase. It takes too much to set the white balance and with the little playing I got to do with the camera I don’t think it’s going to take pictures as fast as I would like. This camera seems to have one mode, the “Are you retarded?” mode. I’ve already contemplated gnawing my arm off. The fun part is that I was going to take the camera to the town hall tonight and try to get a few snaps in case there was something to write home about, but I think I’m going to need to get to know this machine better first before I attempt to use it in public.

[info]ehowton said that he wanted to see my posts filled with pictures that I have taken. He also wanted more pictures of me.

[info]ehowton, I don’t want any bitching about this

So I’ve been asked to be a venue manager at Sidewalk this year. I asked if I could manage the Sidetalk venue and moderate the panels, but alas, someone else has claimed that job. Ironically, they are going to be showing film there this year as well and that’s what they need me for. But as venue manager is nothing but a glorified slave, I would not be able to see any films nor would I be able to get any screener DVDs, so I guess I’m back to deciding if I want to take off two weekends in a month.

  • September is probably as good as any month to take two weekends off if it came down to it… it’s still far enough away from Thanksgiving/Christmas to give you the time to catch it up if you *had* too…

… though I guess you won’t get ‘public holiday rates’ working the Labor Day weekend, would you? Or is that one of  the two weekends you need to take off?
(If it is, I’d actually include it in “August” and therefore it’s one-a-month… XP)

  • @cmdr_keen - I’m still thinking no, at least not to being a venue manager. I’ll need to see the event schedule before I make my final decision, but then, by the same token, I’ve yet to talk to my aunt and uncle, so I think I’m just going to sit this one out.

  • Can’t you give it back, when you aren’t happy with it?

  • @nattata - Of course. But then I would have no camera.

You have to understand that what I’m really gripping about is the fact that it’s a point-n-shoot instead of the D80 that I want.

  • @nattata - Please see this post for more details.
